United Steelworkers
The United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union (USW) was officially established in 1942 out of a drive to organize the North American steel industry in the 1930s.
Over the years, this union has made the headlines for everything from corruption to strikes. It all adds up to a significant loss of membership and power – which may make you wonder if this is the group of people you want representing your interests.
What it means to be a Steelworker
- USW members are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the USW Constitution.
- At least some USW members aren’t happy with the union’s representation, 1,459 unfair labor practice (ULPs) charges have been filed against the Steelworkers union since 2014, according to Bloomberg BNA.
